Had a great trip to the beach. Had some wonderful food. We dined at Antipasti in Ocean City, MD. They have some great pasta dishes. This restaurant was featured on one of FoodTV's "Best of" shows. In the episode, they featured Antipasti's Timballo dish, which is similar to a lasagna, but more delicate and it happens to be my favorite. Be sure to check it out if you are ever down that way.
One sad note on our trip - my husband's favorite barbeque joint, Bootsie's BBQ (
http://www.bootsiesbbq.net/) in Ocean View, DE suddenly shut down. Apparently the owner was advised by her doctor to stop working. We were all so disappointed because we look forward each year to enjoying her pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches. They were the best and they were award winners as well! By the end of our stay, her place was reopened, under new ownership, but we were unable to check out the food because we already had all of our lunches and dinners planned, but next year we will definitely be checking out Charlie K's barbeque! We also found a great new restaurant - Zorba's in Rehoboth (
www.zorbasrehoboth.com). The best Greek food we have ever had the pleasure of tasting! It was a resounding hit with the family. For appetizers we ordered the Saganaki, a flaming Greek cheese. I loved it, it had a very unique flavor. We also ordered a sampler platter of dips with pita bread. These were amazing - Hummus, Tzatziki and Melitzanosalata (roasted eggplant w/garlic lemon and olive oil).
For the entrees, three of the group ordered the sampler which offered generous servings of Moussaka
(baked layers of eggplant, potatoes & meat sauce topped with béchamel sauce), Pastichio (baked macaroni layered with savory meat sauce topped with béchamel sauce) and Pork Souvlaki. They could not stop raving about the food. I was leery of Pork Souvlaki, having never tried it before, but they all informed me that it was delicious.
I had the Chicken Souvlaki, which was tender, moist and delicious. Many I have tried tend to be dried out a bit. The dinners also came with the side dishes of Greek Salads and Greek potatoes, which were all delicious.
All this wonderful food hidden in a small non-descript restaurant located in a shopping center next to Food Lion. Who would have guessed it? I highly recommend it if you are ever in the Rehoboth, DE area!
